How Do You Repair Concrete Cancer?

Concrete cancer repairs involve removing deteriorated concrete, treating corroded reinforcement, rebuilding damaged areas, and protecting the structure against future deterioration.

At Remtech Constructions, our repair process is designed to permanently stop corrosion and restore structural integrity — not simply patch visible damage.

Each stage of the repair process is critical. Poor preparation, incomplete reinforcement treatment, or inadequate concrete removal are some of the main reasons many concrete cancer repairs fail prematurely.

    Our Concrete Cancer Repair Process

    STEP 1: Site Inspection

Our team carries out an on-site inspection to identify:

    – The cause of the deterioration
    – The affected concrete areas
    – The extent of the damage
    – Signs of reinforcement corrosion
    – Moisture-related issues

This allows us to properly assess the structure before repairs begin.

    STEP 2: Quote

We provide a detailed quote outlining the required repair scope, repair areas, and recommended remedial works.

STEP 3: Cut And Define Repair Area

Precise saw cutting is carried out around the repair area to create clean repair boundaries and help prevent further cracking or uncontrolled concrete breakout.

    STEP 4: Concrete Removal

All damaged, cracked, loose, and unsound concrete is removed. This process exposes the reinforcement bars and allows adequate clearance behind the steel for proper repair access and treatment.

    STEP 5: Reinforcement Cleaning

Exposed reinforcement bars are mechanically cleaned back to bare metal to remove corrosion and surface contaminants.

STEP 6: Reinforcement Repair (When Required)

Where reinforcement steel has deteriorated beyond acceptable limits, new reinforcement may be installed using correct anchoring and lap length requirements.

    STEP 7: Corrosion Protection

An anti-corrosion coating is applied to exposed reinforcement steel to help protect against future corrosion.

STEP 8: Substrate Preparation & Priming

The concrete substrate is carefully prepared by removing contaminants and ensuring suitable surface conditions for bonding. A suitable bonding primer is then applied before reinstatement works begin.

    STEP 9: Structural Repair

High-strength repair mortar is applied to rebuild the damaged concrete area.

    This stage includes:

    – Proper compaction
    – Correct reinforcement cover
    – Layered application where required
    – Structural profile reinstatement

    STEP 10: Curing

The repaired concrete is properly cured to help achieve strength, durability, and minimise shrinkage cracking.

STEP 11: Protective Coating (When Required)

Where required, protective or waterproof coating systems are applied to help extend the life of the repair and reduce future moisture penetration.

Concrete cancer repairs are commonly carried out on:

    – Balconies
    Apartment buildings
    – Car parks
    – Rooftops
    – Basements
    – Suspended slabs
    – Staircases
    – Structural concrete areas
